i don't remember which day it happened.. it was a work day for me though
i remember seeing the 2nd plane hit :(

challenger was in 1986, i was living in long beach and we were eating breakfast, i remember eating toast, and watching the space shuttle launch. it was a big deal because we were gonna talk about it in class and stuff. then it exploded.....

OJ murders/chase were in 1994.. my uncle was LAPD homicide at the time working the case and crime scenes so i was more interested

[/quote:zvacjzlk]

I wasn't born until 1986 lol, but I remember the OJ murders on the news. Also Selena dying. It was a big deal to everyone but I wasn't a fan...

You're asking if the people in an exploding rocketspaceship lived?

Apparently the Astronauts knew something was wrong and they jumped out before it exploded, they may have survived the fall back to the ocean but they would not have been concious due to the severe shock and the loss of atmospheric pressure.

no, it was very sudden as i recall and they all died
including a school teacher that's why it was more publicized..

the crew compartment separated from the aircraft and shot like a bullet into the ocean

what was most painful thinking about it now, was how all their families were watching them from the space center,
and we were watching it live -- i remember seeing the parents look of disbelief and shock, i think president reagan and nancy reagan were also there.

what the fuck? I didn't even go to school and I'm not this fucking retarded.

The astronauts aboard Challenger were aware of a serious problem and probably knew they were going to die, but there was nothing they could do about it. The shuttle was not equipped with any ejection/escape systems, it hadn't been needed/used on most other space flights, and was decided to be unnecessary.

The ship didn't even "explode," it began to break up, it disintegrated. The fireball seen was fuel coming from one of the punctured rockets, it burned up as it came out. As the ship broke apart the compartment holding the crew broke away and fell back to earth. The pilots inside were subjected to over 20 Gs (earth gravity is 1 G) as they fell back to earth. The compartment hit the ocean at speeds over 208 MPH. Hitting at this speed you experience over 200Gs FYI.

No chance for survival.

I don't understand why anyone would want to be an austronaut. Ugh.

I'd never even heard of Diana when she died :/.

I don't really think anyone who wasn't British did really.

Or found her death relevant anyway.

I THINK it was big deal here as well, as far as I can remember. I couldn't have paid much attention to all the hype, my 5-year-old self was quite satisfied with my mother's story of a very pretty princess who was to be buried on a small private island which no outsider could visit. I remember thinking it would be nice to visit the island =).

JACKSON ACCUSER JORDY CHANDLER ADMITS CHILD ABUSE ALLEGATIONS WERE ALL LIES?
http://awkwardstar.wordpress.com/2009/06/2...ichael-jackson/[/url:1h94sd68]

...since MJ was a child molester, and all. If this is true, it's pretty damn horrible.

He wouldn't just admit he was lying at this time, when the world is treating MJ like a saint. Imagine what would happen to him if it was true?

Those sites don't give [i:35ojn5uk]any[/i:35ojn5uk] sources. Where and to whom did Chandler say this? Surely it should be mentioned if the story were credible.
But whatever.

It's not the most credible, but the accusers had their issues[/url:31up4zf6]. It's unfortunate that once you're accused of something like that, whether you did it or not, the label sticks with you. I'm not entirely sure Michael deserved it.

"Will always remember when my birthday is since MJ died on the same day :( RIP"

Wtf
Would she have forgotten her birthday otherwise?

I heard when I got home from school too, me and my friend went to her house and her mum opened the door and told us what had happened and that it was on every TV station, we just sat and watched the footage of the 2nd plane. They showed it over and over, it was surreal.

It was a big deal. It was like the world stopped for a week.

I remember watching Guiding Light when they interrupted for the OJ car chase. Other events I can recall: Kurt's suicide,Columbine, Anna Nicole, 9/11...and all that.
I will never forget 9/11. In study hall we always watched the news and when the "Breaking Story" came in...we were shocked. We thought it must have been an accident. No reason at the time to assume otherwise. I remember watching live and screaming when we saw another plane hit. We all knew this wasn't an accident. My friend seeing the flight number and exclaiming her mom was on the flight. She was promptly whisked away to reach her. Thank god her mom got food poisoning the night before and missed the flight. I remember crying at watching people plummet to their deaths...that image still haunts me. One camera guy zoomed in so close you could see their faces, clothes, and expressions. We all sat there still a stone trying to accept more news of more deaths. Then finally the towers crashed...such a surreal, sad and traumatic event. This totally changed my outlook on the world. Events like Columbine were contained devastations that didn't directly impact me. As horrific at they were...it didn't seem real to me. 9/11 seemed very tangible and very real. I think every generation has moments that define them...9/11 was ours.

Anyone remember Gianni Versace's murder?

I feel the same way about 9/11, the people jumping out of windows to their deaths, and pictures of people running away covered in white ash. They'll stick with me.

I don't remember Versace :/.

I was still quite young when 9/11 happened, it didn't affect me so deeply. I do remember it very well and we certainly talked and talked about it at school but it's not something that I ever really think about.

I remember the week or two that followed, it was pretty tense. No planes in the sky, everyone was paranoid it was going to happen somewhere else. I think there was a curfew also?

I'll remember when I found out about 9/11.

Its weird as I'm not American, but it still shook me. I think it was the horrible pictures filling the news for days after.
[/quote:3hbotvia]

Okay, so i just skipped like 4 pages cause I didnt feel like reading, but 9/11 was probably the craziest event in my life.

I live in Jersey, 5 minutes away from NYC. I can see the skyline perfect from out my window. I was in school and I remember looking out the window and just seeing the towers up in flames, and smoke pouring into the sky over my town. it was crazy. Kids were crying, some of my teachers were crying, a lot of my friends had family that died. They evacuated the classrooms and the teachers wouldnt tell us what was going on. I was a smart kid, so I kind of figured something got blown up. My school was shut down for a week because they thought they might launch a second attack.

EDIT: Just to throw out there, 9/11 was a tragedy, but i dont understand how it effects people in other countries. Your safe, its us the terrorists hate.

Our class went to London for a few days shortly after the bomb attacks. We didn't use the underground because of them.
It was sort of freaky because we have relatives there.

PS. michael dying hasn't saddened me, more like shocked me. (i'm sad for his family)

but saying that i remember not long ago reading an article on him and how his skin whitening may cause him skin cancer and i said that i wouldn't be at all surprised if he dropped down dead.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but why are people so broken up about it? ... it really irritates me when people act like they care when they never really knew the person who died.
[/quote:30tl72on]

I think there's lots of factors but for me personally I think part of it is that Michael Jackson was what we listened to when I was a kid, particularly in the car (and even more particularly when we in the car on holiday - we didn't have a lot of money so we would go to florida and just drive around plus do a couple of disney days) so it's been a huge reminder of that long gone time and also a reminder that nothing is infinite, death is always inevitable.

But that's the selfish side of it. The other side is that I've also felt really sad thinking about how I had always sort of assumed he would turn things around one day and get back to a happy life (it seems his life was EVEN MORE fucked up than many people thought what with all his drug use etc. but then what celeb these days isn't popping pills) and it made me really sad to think of how horribly he's been treated by some people in his recent years.

I've been listening to loads of his back-catalogue over the last few days (as have many people obviously) and damn he had so many awesome songs! What a talent!

It's not just about being safe on a personal level, it's the thought that all those thousands of people have been taken away from their families/lives because of a few extremely evil people. It's empathy :) And to see footage of a man jumping to his death from a however many storey high building to avoid death from the collapsing building/fire that is closing in on him - that's pretty damn heart wrenching. If a human being is not affected by that then clearly they have no soul!

It is sad for a lot of countries because we are the "ideal" country. Especially for 2nd or 3rd world countries who view America as the Land of Opportunity. For this tragedy to happen...is shocking. No one is suppose to fuck with America...we are the democratic and just country. So for terrorist to kill thousands of innocent people because they believe in caveman ethics...is sad.

Also for other 1st world countries it means "if we can be attacked....you can too and it will happen eventually." Plus I think people regardless of nationality can identify with the loss of life on a meaningless principles.

Okay I understand the empathy of it and all, but people crying about it when you werent directly effected by it I dont understand. Like I said, I watched it happen. My friends families died, and the smoke from the buildings had drifted over my town, parts of Wehawken and Hoboken. A lot of people, including me, were directly effected by the attacks but like I said, people who werent shouldnt be as upset. Yes, its upseting when a tragedy like that happens, but if nothing happened to you or your family, there is really no reason to go beyond empathy.

And yes, Ive seen the video of the man jumping out of the window. He also wasnt the only person who jumped. There were a lot of people jumping, they just caught him on footage. Now, to say I have no soul because I didnt cry about a man jumping out of a window? I was sad for the man, but I dont know him. I never met him before in my life. I was a little to busy being scared shitless because my entire county went into panic mode from bomb threats made to the public schools in my area, and for the people I know who died.

Its kind of the same thing for Michael Jackson, in a way. I'm not directly effected by his death, so it doesnt really bother me. I feel bad for his family, and its a huge blow to the music industry, but I'm not really sad about it. I never met the man, so I find it hard to cry about it like I see so many people on the television doing. This may come off as selfish, but things that dont directly effect me or the people I know and love, doesnt really upset me.

Dont get me wrong, its a fucked up situation how he died. The autopsy report came back and said that the doctor he had in his house injected him with adrenaline to try and jump-start his heart, and did it in the wrong place. Also, while trying to give him CPR, they broke a rib, or ribs? not sure.

Now, like I said, its fucked up and all, but i'm not personally loosing any sleep over it.
