The California Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage today. Discuss.

Until the 1960s homosexuality was considered a mental disease

well think about it, it is technically unnatural, it makes people uncomfortable because what are you supposed to do? Get married and reproduce

And a gay couple can't reproduce

its the same reason why contraception used to be illegal, why abortion used to be illegal.

Society hates sex unless it ends in a baby. Pure and simple

I don't think anyone can prove whether or not it is natural because we can't prove whether or not homosexuality existed within early humanity. There are tons of species of other animals who have homosexual relations. It's just taboo now. Having black skin is natural, though it was taboo. *Shrug* You just never know.

Oh, PS there are studies relating homosexuality to certain brain chemistry. Maybe it's more natural than you think…

Well yeah, saying its unnatural in the way that it doesn;t lead to reproduction

Depends on how you want to put it, homosexuality is as old as man adn then some, the greeks talked about thier Gods having such relationships. Any sexual urge is completely natural, it is only recently that it has tried to be so strictly regulated

it should not be in the constitution, divore is at like 52% now isn't it? Let them get married!

I never got why people say gay marriage ruins the sanctity of marriage. I think the sanctity of marriage was ruined a looong time ago anyway. But you cant help who you love, whether you are gay or straight so who cares? Good for them!

sorta on the subject..

I saw something on like 20/20 a few weeks ago where they were talking about homosexuality and brain chemistry and how they can find the common factors with homosexuals and are either experimenting or HAVE a "cure" for gay basically, where they take a needle (with consent from the mother) and inject the embryo with it to decrease the chances of the child being gay.

WHAT?

doctor:[i:1qn0pwpq]Sorry Mrs. Miller but it seems your baby boy carries the homosexual gene. Fortunately we can prevent this with a simple shot if you would prefer.[/i:1qn0pwpq]
Mrs. Miller:[i:1qn0pwpq]Oh no thank you. I will love my child no matter who he is[/i:1qn0pwpq]

fast forward 16 years later

Billy:[i:1qn0pwpq]I told you mom... I'm NOT gay[/i:1qn0pwpq]
Mrs. Miller: [i:1qn0pwpq]But Billy the doctor said...[/i:1qn0pwpq]

This talk of "curing homosexuality" is redundant.
NEWSFLASH: You can't catch it.
Fuck off, because most people have their minds made up and they know/can't control what they like.
It's like telling a man instantly make his boner limp.

Sometimes when i think about it... maybe they shouldn't legalise "gay" marriage.
I'm pretty sure they're a lot happier than your poster-society's good ole' fashion "Straight" couples
becos they don't have to go through all of that contract, government-legal bullshit ceremony.

1. No one here is saying you can "catch" homosexuality, so there's no need to be so unreasonably firm about it.

2. I've never met a gay couple who have been in an exclusively long-term relationship that didn't want to get married. It's mostly about equal rights anyway. And who says straight couples HAVE to get married? If they don't want to go through the (relatively easy) [i:3n94pkfk]license[/i:3n94pkfk] (NOT contract - that's a COMPLETELY different thing not having [i:3n94pkfk]anything[/i:3n94pkfk] to do with marriage - my husband is not my business partner) and/or the [i:3n94pkfk]optional religious[/i:3n94pkfk] ceremony, they don't have to. You shouldn't be so quick to assume. Especially when you can't view it from either perspective.

You're spent after one post? Works for me.

That's a pretty crappy reason for not allowing them the option to do it. Not everyone fucks up their marriage.

I am gay, and it doesnt really matter to me as of now in my life. BUT the option that I could someday marry a man is really nice to know. Hate is hate is hate just as love is love is love. I think that is what the real issue behind all of this nonsense is.
I dont really care or want it because I have seen nothing but broken marriages all around me. I really do want it, and sort've care, because it should not be an option that is exclusive for just a man and a woman.

Hope that makes sense.... my 3 cents.

Yeah i agree, it's about having an option. Like every straight person does. I don't understand why gay marriage hasn't always been allowed.
I understand why it isn't usally allowed through a church because of what the bible says or whatever, but otherwise i think it should've always been legal because there have always been gay people. And it is natural.

Politically I am conservative but I have always believed in gay marriage. Christ, legalize it and lets tackle another issue.

Fuck off & criticise & attack REAL issues in life, instead of consuming your time to what a random person who is using internet has to state.
I do realise that nothing translates well via internet, there's no tone to the text,
but people are also not aware of the finer points of [b:11t0svtd]sarcasm[/b:11t0svtd].

Internet is not life, but something people have in their lives. I just find it rather repulsive that people are too serious on here with what someone has to state virtually- It's not even a Real issue.

Peace.

I dont ever think it'll be completely socially accepted in america, it can only try.
in my humble opinion, i respect people who are open/open enough to let themselves go freely & not feel that if you care about someone, then match the genitals [b:u80pamhc]first[/b:u80pamhc]. If you're following me (i'm not too good at conveying)

Anyway, while i'm at it? why the fuck are we attempting to get rather "semi"-political on a forum.?
what does it really do? lol you know?

anyway, Take it easy bro.

Stop getting so worked up and defensive about the whole thing. You're not the only gay person with an oppinion, and nearly everyone (if not everyone) here agrees with gay marriage anyway, so i don't think your anger about it should be directed at them.

the only reason gay marriage isn't legal is because heteros are afraid their weddings wouldn't hold a candle to the fabulously ferocious weddings my people would have. they're just afraid the world would be overturned by gay bridezillas.

if only the separation of church and state actually existed...

somehow i missed this entire thread? well, maybe i read it and realized that my points had already been made by others. in any case, the proposition 8 turmoil makes this whole issue relevant again.
background: the california supreme court's ruling that legalized same-sex marriage was overturned when voters approved propostion 8 earlier this month. the court is now hearing several challenges to the ban which question the constitutionality of the voter-enacted decision, and claim that it violates the civil rights of a minority group. the ban will be enforced until a decision is reached.
i have no idea how this will end. the california supreme court has made its position clear on this issue, but there are, like, no precedents to guide their decision in a case like this. and the plaintiffs arguments are mostly procedural. it's going to be difficult for them to prove that this decision alters the structure of the state's government.

If they don't want to go through the (relatively easy) [i:1y7gra6h]license[/i:1y7gra6h] (NOT contract - that's a COMPLETELY different thing not having [i:1y7gra6h]anything[/i:1y7gra6h] to do with marriage - [b:1y7gra6h]my husband is not my business partner[/b:1y7gra6h]) and/or the [i:1y7gra6h]optional religious[/i:1y7gra6h] ceremony, they don't have to. You shouldn't be so quick to assume. Especially when you can't view it from either perspective.

You're spent after one post? Works for me.

I dont ever think it'll be completely socially accepted in america, it can only try.
in my humble opinion, i respect people who are open/open enough to let themselves go freely & not feel that if you care about someone, then match the genitals [b:1y7gra6h]first[/b:1y7gra6h]. If you're following me (i'm not too good at conveying)

Anyway, while i'm at it? why the fuck are we attempting to get rather "semi"-political on a forum.?
what does it really do? lol you know?

anyway, Take it easy bro.

someone brilliant once told me that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. and i'm not sure whom you're angry with, anyway.

[b:1y7gra6h]the only reason gay marriage isn't legal is because heteros are afraid their weddings wouldn't hold a candle to the fabulously ferocious weddings my people would have. they're just afraid the world would be overturned by gay bridezillas.[/b:1y7gra6h]

if only the separation of church and state actually existed...
[/quote:1y7gra6h]

i concur. in fact, we, or lifetime, or whichever network it is, definitely needs to look into this. i think "gay bridezillas" would be a wildly successful program. much more entertaining than all those whiney women.

you know those insane bitches who want 8 white doves to fly out of a cage at their wedding and if they don't they're gonna massacre the place?
you know those insane bitches who reckon that if their cake isn't atleat 5 tiers and made in a day they are going to eat their partner because it's all their fault?

bridezillas. bride + godzilla, i think it's pretty easy to understand.

i'm all for gay marriage, partnerships, whatever. my dad's gay so eh. it's all about being considered an equal, by taking the law away it just creates an invisible barrier of class or not having it stated. i don't think marriage is a matter of religion either. It's union between two. not union between you, your partner and jesus. it's really unfortunate, i don't think rights are something to be judged by the public/majority because since when has the public/majority become a valuable judge for what's right and wrong?

no, if nickelback sells more albums than jeff buckley does, it doesn't mean they are BETTER, but it would clearly prove that nickleback is more popular than jeff buckley.

gay marriage is not POPULAR, apparently.

yeah, but by that people are JUDGING what is BEST for themselves and others. because you don't VOTE for something you don't LIKE. not every person is capable of looking past what is best for only themselves.

the PROBLEM IS that via the POPULARITY VOTE which is THE PUBLIC we aren't getting a valued answer! it is a "what is more popular" vote which doesn't mean it is right.

If this was a matter left to the courts i'd have more faith in them than some trailerpark trash with 5 kids out of wedlock saying "dem fags don't need no marriage"

that's one of the objections presented to the court by the plaintiffs: they object to the fact that this ban was enacted by voters, possibly for the reasons you outlined. i haven't read very much about their specific arguments.
