I can't put this book down. It's so brilliant. I hate school and sleepyness for coming and breaking me away from reading >: (

Still reading Enduring Love by the way xD
I'll most likely finish it today.

So I read The Tales of Beedle the Bard the day after I received it on the way to and from work and then I finished it.

well, they are supposed to be children's stories, we're not talking epic verse. and rowling didn't dedicate four years to it. [i:33u38zrj]deathly hallows[/i:33u38zrj] was only released a year and a half ago, so obviously her focus has been elsewhere.
i haven't read it yet, but i am looking forward to it.

ok, speaking of Epic Verse... the woman translated her books into Latin, she isn't fucking Ovid.. Sorry i'm really anti- Rowling when people say she's just writing "children's stories".. < DPO

i don't think she did it herself, dear; they've been translated into sixty-five different languages. i imagine the latin (and ancient greek) are meant to be read by students for practice.
and no, the harry potter series are not children's stories exclusively. i meant [i:2bpg3paj]the tales of beedle the bard[/i:2bpg3paj] are children's stories. that's how she explains them (or ron does) in [i:2bpg3paj]deathly hallows[/i:2bpg3paj].

The only people who read Latin are Latin scholars, or English grad students. There are virtually no Latin 101 enrollments compared to 10 or even 5 years ago. I think the only reason you'd translate Harry Potter into Latin is to be pretentious. You wouldn't be reading Harry Potter in a Latin 101 class anyway. <DPO

i didn't mean undergraduates. lots of private high schools offer latin courses, usually levels one through five. years four and five often have a literature focus. or they did at my school, anyway.

beedle is just JK not being able to let HP go. Now that the series is over she's selling out and milking HP, first with those hogwarts school books, then with the children book. Toys, trading cards, board games, video games, etc. etc.

In my school you can start studying Latin at the age of 13/14. When 16/17, you can take Ancient Greek lessons if there are at least 4 other students interested. My school is sillysillysilly. Everything's so damn academic, economics, sociology, obligatory philosophy..

the fucking "witching hour" by anne rice just wont fucking end. ive lost so much interest in the book that i'm down to a grueling two pages a day, and that's not even a daily basis. closer to two pages every three or four days...

which breaks down to like 3 or o4 paragraphs a day...

it's gotten to boring suddenly. i want to start reading "a wizard's first rule." kelly made me buy it.

I hate myself for failing to follow my reading schedule.

I finished reading a book on Sverige-Finland yesterday, was [u:3k09apr6]supposed[/u:3k09apr6] to finish [i:3k09apr6]Lддkдriromaani[/i:3k09apr6] before the holidays and then proceed with my criminal law book, but of course I had to go and get [i:3k09apr6]Sakset[/i:3k09apr6] from our school's library and additionally start another book on Vikings. Whoops.

Frustrating.

I've given up.

It's Jacobs second biggest book but Bellas constant moaning bugs me so much.

I hate the first half of it..

So I'm reading The Bone Collector.

I'm about to start Death of A Salesman. Gotta read it over Christmas for Uni.

Is it really as boring as everyone says it is?

Yeah I'm sure I'll get through it pretty quick, got Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot to read after that.

I'm Steph, by the way. :)

Gonna get it finished and go onto Eclipse because I've forgotten for the life of me what that book was about.

samesies when it comes to covers! i would spend more on the exact same book if one had a more appealing cover than the other.. how sad?

i haven't read the book before but i like what is put forward so far. i love classics, i wish more books were like them..

It's extremely long, but I took an interest in this after a Psych class I took. Zimbardo's an American psychologist who did a prison experiment in the 70s..basically he placed a bunch of college kids into roles of prison guards and prisoners, and they ended up having to cut the experiment short because it became so brutal. Then, in '04...remember all those photos in the news of the abused Iraqi soldiers? They were startlingly similar to photos from the prison study. They actually had Zimbardo become involved with those trials. This book kind of ties all of his observations together.

I've seen that case in my psych class too. And my soc class. crazy stuff. When I saw the cover I thought the book was all religion inspired, now im intrigued.

This book kind of ties all of his observations together.

yeah, it is taught in every psychology class in the world pretty much. i learnt about it as well. talk about a standard curriculum! but it is still a very informative look at power and how it can change people.

Aww dude, I want to read The Lucifer Effect! Zimbardo came out to Melbourne in September and I was lucky enough to attend his lecture and grab a photo with him. Bought his new book the Time Paradox which I haven't started yet, but the Lucifer Effect is the one I really want to get stuck into. Unfortunately I live in the northern suburbs of Melbourne where all the bookshops are TINY because no-one here can read. :( Must trek into the city to even find a good book.
Currently I'm reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I love how the classics only cost $6.
