Getting my tattoo sorted tomorrow.

From everyone's personal experience, what's the best ways to take care of it?

Creams, antibacterial soap, tips for not getting it too wet etc.

Sun really isn't a problem here, haha.

Don't pick it when it scabs up. When you sleep try not to sleep on it if possible, it'll hurt, and the ink will stain whatever it touches (dude got a tattoo on his arm one night, went to sleep, his pillow got a tattoo also)

the guy that tattooed me told me to just get some UNSCENTED lotion (he bought the generic kind from the store and used that) and told me to apply it regularly, also to lightly wash it with soap when I shower.

Don't use vasoline please.

when I had mine, everyone kept telling me to use A+D cream, but I still have no fucking idea what that is.

You can usually find it in the baby aisle because it's mostly used as a diaper rash cream. The yellowy kind is better than the white kind.

And by baby aisle, of course, I mean the aisle in which they sell babies.

Oh I get it, so A+B is MADE from babies? Fascinating! A product for babies, FROM babies. Resourceful!

If you don't want to use anything chemical based, you can always just use olive oil.

I got the back of my neck tattoo covered up with a rose.

I am shamefully bad at getting tattoos though, so I didn't get through it all today, I kept tensing up my shoulders and scrunching the skin on my neck up. I'm like the worst customer ever. Its nearly done hah.

They told me to get bepanthen, which is just like A + D methinks. I bought a mild baby soap too.

I rather like that olive oil idea though...

If you get a tattoo on your foot heres a tip:

Wrap it tightly with saran wrap with the the ointment your artist recomended (I dont remember what I used, not important right now

And DO NOT wear flip flops, wear socks and lace up shoes on tight (With the saran wrap while healing)

I wouldn't recommend saran wrap after the first couple of hours you have the tattoo. Skin needs to be able to breathe to heal. Saran wrap hinders that.

i seriously don't remember how i took care of mine.
it was done, they put a patch on it (which it bled through..) told me to 'wash' it with soapy water twice a day.. i think.. i didn't use any creams.

i feel the same.. i have a tattoo on the top of my back, about shoulder line smack bang in the middle, of a heart, which has a repeated zig zag pattern through it (which separates the parts). it isn't broken, but i have been so tempted to cover it due to old men asking me if i have a broken heart. "no, and who are you to ask?" i wanted to cover it up with something abstract.. but i do like it. :( dilemma

remember, the tattoo is for you, it's personal, not for the others... it probably has a meaning for you, so fuck them all!

Are all your tattoo pictures in the tattoo/piercing thread from ages ago?

If not, post em!

Mines healing pretty well at the moment, its scabbed a bit, but it doesn't itch at all yet so I haven't been tempted to scratch.

Mine are so completely badass that your eyes would melt out of your head if you saw them. That's why I usually keep them covered up.

I used tattoo goo and the pot of evil shit made me go reeeeeeeeeally scabby. But I think also my skin has something to do with it, cuz I've had my fairys wings redone and they're still patchy and now one of her eyes has gone completely crap and faded. But I need to be numbed when I go for a tattoo because I faint, it doesn't even hurt (I have been tattooed without numbing too) but somewhere in the back of my head the thought of whats going on must freak me out subconciously, and I must build it up too much or something. So I want it redone in places but first I have to wait an hour for the stuff to kick in and also i want another tattoo on the same day because that's just easier for me but the numbing stuff would wear off on at least one of the places so it just wouldn't work on the same day. Humph! It's annoying I can't watch Miami Ink or LA Ink because it makes me think about my fairy and makes me feel like shit. It may also be patchy cuz it's a large area of colour, this guy has tattooed friends and theirs have been fine! /ranty rant

When I got mine redone I just used soapy water then clean water then patted dry and put a little bit of moisteriser on it and I got no scabs.

NOOO! A&D was the worst advice EVER for me!

My tattoo never healed because i kept putting that crap on it, and now it's all scabbed up and gross.
I'm probably going to have to go get it retouched once it heals.

Just stick with regular lubriderm.

bepanthen and more bepanthen, cuz it doesnt let the scab get too thick, if it gets itchy just out some more on it instead of scratching and fucking up your tattoo

But you're supposed to go back and get it re-touched after you get it right? and it's supposed to scab up...

Mine healed up nicely just using bepanthen the first 3 days or so then unscented moisturiser. The random bits of red are from the crap tattoo underneath. I'm just happy it looks like something now, other than a child's doodle.

I did same with all my tattoos:

Washing them with antibacterial soap and then putting cream for skin healing that woman who are breast feeding use.I'm washing it for like every 4 hours and it heals in less than week.
