Does anyone know a good way to get dread locks out of your hair? (Besides cutting it).

I need help.

Take a comb/brush and be VERY fucking patient.

Also, lots of shampoo, repeatedly.

Thanks...I'm really impatient when it comes to combing them out. But I've never actually used shampoo to do it with.

Get a good conditioner..let it saturate your hair....let it set for 5 minutes then slowly start combing. it worked for me so i didnt have to cut out any hair.

A girl i went to highschool went didnt believe me on the cutting them out part. I only had dreads for abt 2-3 months and i combed them out and my hair was fine. She left her dreads in for about 9 months and she got frustrated combing them out and just cut them out of her hair. She had 4 inches of hair left.

I got the old ones out. My hair was fine. I never brush my hair so they form naturally.

I just made one big fat one though. Put beads in it. It's badass.

Pics?

I ever brush my hair either... Buuut... I wash it every day cos I shower every day. I've got a shite scalp so if I dont take care of my head it gets flaky and greasy.

Ever since I was young I always liked dreads though.

Bought I thougt you weren't supposed to wash your hair if you wanted dreadlocks?!

I thought the idea was to just neglect it until it got super nappy.

My hair is pretty tangled. But thats about it. :|

That's the common misunderstanding about dread locks...you actually have to wash your hair, get the oils out and what not, it's easier to form. You just get a comb and back-comb your hair tightly...it's a tedious thing. But yes, you wash your hair.

O RLY?!

I was about to toss some wax in it.

I don't know if these are dreads, but this is what I was aiming for.

I'd love to have my hair like that.

you wash dreads but i used a stocking over my dreads and washed normally. if you didnt wash dreads the stink would force people to cut them off for you.

D: That's funny cos last time I asked about it everyone said to just stop washing your hair and to pretty much abandon it... And after awhile it starts getting real nasty and turns into dreadlocks, thats why i never bothered to get them.

But now everyone is saying it's just like normal hair and you have to wash it.

See those look real fuckin clean. I want to try those.

hmm you could do that to develope dreads, you wont have many friends but o well. Im saying after you have had dreads for a while you wash them...and you can put more pomade or beeswax in them.

I've been thinking about the wax. I heard it gets on everything and is hard to clean out. I don't really care I keep thinking in the back of my head "get some fuckin wax and put it in ur hair and see what happens..."

Like that time I was thinking to myself "just shave your head completely bald to see what it looks like..."

If your stinky and ugly, your going to be stinky and ugly with dreads.
Its about the individual, dreads don't look good on everyone but when they work, they're dead sexy, and for those talking about odour and lice...one word febreeze (or any air refresher sanitiser) this will totally kill any stench.
