its best to wait till your actually legally old enough and even then only drink with friend ACTUAL friends not "drinking buddies" those are not real friends.
And dont just drink for the sake of it that just leaces u feeling like shit, i went thru a bit of a drinking problem less than a year ago when i would drink a few times a week and was contantly struggling to pay rent, bills etc but now i only go out drinking about twice a month if that.

meh there is no problem with the age part to get fucked up me personallyt have been smoking and drinking since I was 12 and number 2 alchol never killed anyone only the dumbasses killed themselves

Shaa, i think you should just chill on drinking for awhile chris, you might need those memory cells someday lol .... i picked up drinking frm dear ol dad, he works hard but likes to chug poison down on the weekends, i used to join him all the time, but its gotten kinda old. I enjoy hitting the sauce every now and then like at family get togethers (everybody in my family drink, they start you at young to) or with my buds. , point is, if you hit the bottle hard when your young its most likey you get tired of it, or grow out of being shitfaced all the time

well i reckon just like everyone says, you should just like not drink anymore atleast untill you're legal. at the mo, you're probs just hanging about in lame places getting drunk. its much fun when you're older, you can go to a pub or a bar with you're mates, have a few drinks, and a laugh. but to be honest if peeps have problems, and they use alcohol to forget about them, then thats a problem in itself. i'd listen to what most people have put here about not drinking at all, you just feel better about yourself in the long term.

I've had first hand experience of what it's like to live with a bad alcoholic and there's no way in hell i'd ever let myself or anyone i cared about get into that state if I could help it. It can fuck you up so much that it becomes un repairable. It doesn't solve any problems, it just creates them and not only is it bad for your health, but also your social life, your family life and your future.

I've never been an 'alcoholic' but sometimes I still just have an urge to get drunk and I don't know why, a lot of people do. My mum doesn't keep any in the house anyway. It seems like a kind of release and i'm pretty shy so it always helps when i'm out. When I was 14/15 I used to hang out in parks at the weekend with my friends (who are still my friends, they weren't just drinking buddies) and we used to scrape together our pocket money and go and buy a bottle of vodka and drink it. Now we all wonder how or why we ever did that. I can't drink like that now at all! Infact I can't even take vodka unless it's heavily mixed... I also found out the hard way it makes me a bit er, loco.

Anyways yes I do drink but now it's legal for me the *novelty* of getting drunk wore off long ago and I don't do it as often, but I still slip into it sometimes. I wanted to get drunk practically every night when I didn't have a job last month! Its ridiculous, but it's definately something you have to curb. Even I need to a bit to be honest It's fine in moderation of course, you don't have to stop altogether - but i'd advise when you're pretty young to try and stay off the spirits and don't over do it. DON'T skip school because of it!

I think i drunk a lot in the weekends. The alcohol get me off of all my problems and sorrows. 2 months ago my grandfather died...and I drink more...I don't exceed it and I have a little depresion

I think the most i'd ever had at 12 was a single bacardi breezer that my dad gave me... I used to think they were reaaaal hardcore alcohol, how naieve. Should have known better really.

My mum still even considers them to be some hardcore for some reason, ha. I had two bottles of Magners in my bin over a week and she was like 'I see you've been drinking a lot recently'... she's really odd when it comes to the stuff. But I don't really blame her, she has reason.

During my first year at Uni I got a reputation as something of a hard drinker, despite not drinking that much. It was due to the fact that every now and then I would drink a bottle of whiskey in an hour or so, I didnt drink often but when I did... urgh.

It's a time I really regret. I was being stupid, and wouldn't do it again. It all came to an end after first year, just a few days after, when I went to a mates Uni to spend the weekend and downed a bottle of absinthe (DOWNED a WHOLE bottle of absinthe)...

I have a couple of missing hours, but didn't have a hangover or anything. I was sick, but for the next few days I was in pain.

Since then I haven't been able to bring myself to get completely wrecked, tipsy a couple of times... but nowhere near Drunk.

While I regret the time I spent drinking like that, it eventually did serve as a wake up call.

No offence ment however i mean like with the drinking age being much higher and there just seems to be a lot more of a stigma around it.

Im Scottish (known for being big drinkers) but spent most of my childhood in a muslim country (Brunei) and for religous reasons alcohol was banned but at the weekends you'd see muslim men drive over the boarder and hit the nearest bar then drive back.
It was like some rebelous thrill and completely underminding their apparent relgion and lifestyle. I now live in Portugal but i study in england, the drinking age in portugal is 16 and although there is a big drinking culture, it's aimed at tourists... the portuguese don't see it as a big deal at all, the minority binge, they don't abuse it. The tourists come out and hit the bars hard, mostly english teens and they abuse it big time. So fair enough they're on holiday but it's the same in the uk.

Living there aswell i am part of it, im an underage pub goer. Ive been getting served in bars in Portugal since i was 13 but only really got away with it in england when i was 15/16 depending on who i was with etc. In Portugal people go out to dance and play pool... in england people go out to get fucked... then dance and start fights... i know im generalising but the majority. There's a time factor aswell, places in Portugal are open way later so theres no rush, in england you "have to slam it down" before closing time!

Anyway the point im making and i thought id explain all that to justify myself in a way/share my experience...
Im 17, not 18 till june but it dosnt stop me spending most of my social life in the pub with my friends who like me don't drink to get drunk... well i say that after a stressfull week i will but i don't realise im doing it most of the time! Ive had my fair share of heading down to the park because we were too young to sit in a pub on a saturday night and drinking straight vodka or jd and then cider etc and i don't look down on the kids doing it now. It wasn't some fuck you at anyone, it was just some good times...

At the end of the day i think it depends on how you've been brought up, a lot of people i used to see at parties passed out or getting an ambulance called for them was the ones who's parents didn't let them drink. My parents some people would say are alcoholics, but i beg to differ. We have two fridges for alcohol and a bar lol but they're not dependent, they just appriciate it and i'd like to think im like that. I can see how it could spiral... but i know i won't let that happen. Ive got self control and so do you as adictive as your personality might be and as shit a time as you will go through it's choice how you deal with it. Sometimes a good drink will sort it out... sometimes it wont...

How about, - you try and limit the booze a bit, - look at it this way, if you drink tonnes now, - you will be so bored with it by the time you can actually have fun with it, - i.e go to clubs and bars and have an amazing time. - I think I speak for everyone when I say we have all been there, - when you start drinking it is a buzz and you do it cos it's fun.
My mum is a recovering alcoholic. I drink. - To be honest I really like to drink, - I have social bottles of wine with friends regulally - although in the Uk it's far more socially acceptable to drink with your meals and after work then I think it is in the US.
Anyway, - My Ma was a drunk. I am not, - I I dont think I ever will be because I am aware of the concequenses alcohol has, - I saw her swallow every ounce of pride she had left to become sober, - and now I could not be more proud of her.
- be careful though, - when you drink to numb the pain - you are onto a pretty large downward spiral.

Of course alcohol can be very fun, and tempting. But it's also a son of a bitch. I've seen many people around me waste away from it, and most times it's really not worth it. Having a drink every now and then is okay. But drinking needs to be watched carefully.

My mom makes the decision to drink when she's depressed- which is something a lot of people do- and a stupid fucking idea. Alcohol is a depressant, and so if you drink when you're sad, it will only make it worse.

I agree with Jessica, drink if you want, but don't let it control you. You need to be in charge, no matter WHAT drug you're taking.
