Ditto. Why anyone would knowingly inflict this upon themselves is beyond me, but I guess some people are just ignorant.

What I don't get is why people start smoking in the first place, it tastes and smells like shit.

yeh, i'm not sure. most long-term smokers want to quit anyway. even brody's always been like that. i met her ages ago before i even started smoking and she offered me a cigarette. when i told her i didn't smoke her reply was, "god, you're beautiful."

Me too. When I was a kid my dad would always smoke in the house and I would get strept throat from it. I'd say about once or twice a year I had strept throat. One day they didn't take me to the doctor, by the end of the day I had gone from strept throat to Scarlet Fever! : o

When I was a smoker, people smoking in places with blatent "dont smoke" signs, wouldnt have bothered me

my great grandma did too. Loved it so much she smoked 2 packs a day. Died when she was 99, from food poisoning no less!

But back then cigarettes were different, i'd imagine.

Smoking CAN cause lung cancer, it increases the risks, but it's not the only way to get lung cancer, and lun cancer isn't the only cancer you can get. It's not like if you never smoke you're garaunteed to NEVER get any kind of cancer.

Of course I'm not saying it's cool to smoke bacause of that. The idea was more like "Oh you don't want cancer? Then don't go in the sun, don't drink tap water, don't dye your hair," etc. etc.

right, exactly. and again i'll say... prevention is key. asbestos can cause cancer. it's not the only way to get cancer. but i'm not gonna go sniffing loads of asbestos, because i know what CAN happen. and i'm not stupid.

I know this thread is about smoking, which i have been doing since i was 17 and now i'm 24, but i'm not really worried about my lungs at the moment coz i'm down to smoking maybe 20 a week, but my problem is drinking. I ain't an alcoholic coz i don't drink everyday but when i do drink i can't stop and i'm really worried about my liver. Does anybody else think they drink too much?

It's not "internet language," it's called an ACRONYM. IP, GM, Laser and NATO are acryonyms. TBQH means "To be quite honest."

Anyways I got the message, I repeated myself because I wasn't paying attention.

I probably should have said something more like "IMO (in my opinion) smoking is only ONE way to get [a certain kind] of cancer, and since I don't smoke to begin with, I, personally, find the whole issue on smoking a triviality, it doesn't concern me much."

Smoking makes affects how things taste and smell, and your lungs are halfed in their capacity.

the good news is if you quit, it generally takes about nine months for your lungs to completely clean themselves again, give or take depending on how bad you've ruined them.

Smoking is really bad…I’m not really sure how or why I started, but I’ve stopped smoking for three months now, (yeah) although I’m tempted by my friends occasionally.

It pisses me the fuck off when people who smoke think they have the right to smoke on train station platforms that clearly state there is no smoking.

Second of all, there may be people on that platform exclusively because they want to be on a platform where there is no smoking and what the hell, you're ruining it for them.
