I just got it today and I'm only on chapter 4, but so far it's good. The main character's dad was in American Gods. He's the one that wears yellow gloves and a white fedora.

How are you getting on with it? It's a book I find I can only read a little of per sitting. Takes me a lot longer than most books, I think because it's so dense you can't rush though it. I've read it before, but it's been a very long time and I had forgotten just how many changes Peter Jackson made for the movie.

Ah you're coming up to a bit that is hugely different from the films, in fact chapters 4,5,6,7 and 8 are barely touched upon in the film at all. So there's gonna be a lot of new stuff for ya, won't spoil anything though.

In all honestyy, anyone who can get through the first chapter has my respect. It's the hardest part of the book to get through.

[i:jaose8hj]lord of the rings[/i:jaose8hj], for the win! it took me a long time to get through it, too; tolkien is very thorough with his geographical descriptions. i had a really hard time trying to picture all of it.

i think new zealand was a superb choice of locales for the film, too. although i'm not sure i would have chosen it myself.

well, when i read it; [i:9cpd95p3]the lord of the rings[/i:9cpd95p3], i always imagined it to be like a medieval britain.

"hopes may rise on the grasmere, but honey pie, you're not safe here..."

i sort of assumed the same thing, about medieval britain, but i don't have any real frame of reference.
